TITANS GRAB A POINT AGAINST REDHAWKS; FALL 7-6 IN OT

BRANTFORD, ONTARIO – The Brantford Titans welcomed the Cambridge Redhawks to town on Thursday looking to be the first team to knock off the Redhawks this season. Cambridge is the last undefeated team in the GOHL as they entered play on Thursday with a 9-0 record. The Titans on the other hand, had another opportunity to grab their first win of the 2025-26 season.

The scoring got started early in this game. Matteo Gauthier got us started just 2:17 into the first period. His fifth of the season beat Hill clean to make it 1-0. Alexander Karmanov and Kaleb Frank collected the assists. Kyler Morgan would answer as he fired a shot blocker side on James Gall to tie the game at 1. Morgan’s power play goal was assisted by Alexander Forrest. The Titans would follow up the goal by sending out their top line of Matteo Gauthier, Kaleb Frank and Quinton Kim-Lemay and they would answer. Just 13 seconds after the Redhawks tied it, Kaleb Frank scored his 5th of the year to put his team back in front. Gauthier and Tavernese would pick up the assists. Joey Kapel would then take a slashing penalty, putting Cambridge back on the man advantage. Reid Gammage would make them pay as he would clean up the garbage in front of the net to make it 2-2. Morgan and Fries collected the assists on the goal. Titans would answer again. With 37 seconds to go, Preston Grice and Colton Vanderelzen would break into the Cambridge zone on a 2 on 1. Grice would send it to Vanderelzen and he would one-time it past Hill for his first in the GOHL. Titans would lead 3-2 after 20 minutes. Shots were even at 15 after 20 minutes.

In the second, Kaleb Frank would score his 2nd of the night after racing into the zone up the left wing side and firing it blocker side on Hill. This shot would be the last that Aidan Hill would see as he would get pulled after allowing 4 goals. Brandon Balcar would come into the game and it seemed to spark the Redhawks. They would score the next three goals to lead 5-4 after 40 minutes. Cambridge goals were credited to Sam Savery, Sutton Meier and Kyler Morgan who would score with 1.7 seconds left in the period to put his team in front. Cambridge would outshoot Brantford 30-29 through 2 periods.

The Titans would look for a spark in the third and the got one early into the third. Owen Yagar received a 2 minute minor and a game misconduct for checking from behind putting Brantford on a 5 on 3 power play with Jeremiah D’Ornellas already in the box for kneeing. Titans couldn’t convert with the two man advantage but they did score 5 on 4 to tie the game at 5. It was Joey Kapel netting his second goal of the year. And just 21 seconds later, Kaden Wicklander streaked in all alone and beat Brandon Balcar to put the Titans back in front by 1. It would be Wicklander’s first as a Titan and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Just past the midway mark of the third, the Titans would send the Redhawks back to the power play and they would make the Titans pay. It took Reid Gammage just four seconds to score on the power play to make it 6-6. The rest of the game would be scoreless meaning that each team would grab a point, with a second on the line.

In the extra frame, Gavin Christie would try to make his way up the right side of the ice but would turn it over to Kyler Morgan. Morgan would find Gammage in the middle of the ice all alone and he would send it past Gall for the win. Cambridge stays undefeated and improves to 10-0-0-0 while the Titans fall to 0-7-2-0.

The Titans are back in action on Saturday when they host the Ayr Centennials.
