TITANS SHUTOUT HAMILTON 1-0 FOR 6TH STRAIGHT WIN

BRANTFORD, ONTARIO – It was another Saturday afternoon contest at the Gretzky Centre for the Brantford Titans, this time welcoming the Hamilton Kilty B’s for the first time this season. Brantford took the first game of this season series in Hamilton back on October 30th by a score of 4-3. Cohen Lesperance-Spack was back between the pipes for the Titans after getting the night off on Thursday while the Kilty B’s countered with Kayden Newton.

The Titans would come out hard in the opening twenty minutes, firing everything but the kitchen sink at Newton. The Titans would have a 9-0 shot advantage halfway through the first period but no goals to show for it. Brantford did have a power play opportunity in the first half of the period and Matteo Gauthier was set up in his office for a one timer but he was robbed by Newton as the Hamilton goaltender slid right to left to make the save with his glove. The Kilty B’s would get their first shot on net at the 10:10 mark of the first period and they would start to pick up the pace a little bit more from that point on. Hamilton would get two power play opportunities but they could not solve Lesperance-Spack. The teams would skate through a scoreless first period, with the Titans leading the shot department 11-7.

The second period would begin with each team trading chances at both ends. It would also start with the Kilty B’s taking three straight minor penalties, giving the Titans an opportunity to break the deadlock. And that is exactly what would happen on the third power play chance for Brantford. The puck would be sent to the net and chaos would ensue in front of Newton. The Hamilton goaltender would end up on his back not knowing where the puck was, while Kaleb Frank was the only player to find it and he would drag it back and fire it into the empty cage to put Brantford on top 1-0. Quinton Kim-Lemay and David Buchman would assist on Frank’s 11th goal of the season. The Titans would just keep pouring it on after the goal but Newton wouldn’t allow anything else past him in the middle frame. Lesperance-Spack would see seven shots fired his way for the second straight period as he helped his team carry a 1-0 lead into the second intermission. The Titans led in the shot department by a 21-14 margin.

It was similar story to start the third period as it was the begin the game. The Titans dominated the play early in the final frame as they looked for some insurance but Kayden Newton was a brick wall for the Kilty B’s in this game. 20 shots came Newton’s way in the final frame and he stopped all of them. At the other end, Cohen Lesperance-Spack would see a fleury of shots late in the contest as the Kilty B’s would pull the goaltender with about ninety seconds to go. Hamilton would do everything they could to try and tie the game but Lesperance-Spack was not letting anything into the net today as he would finish with 27 saves for his first career GOHL shutout. The Titans outshot the Kilty B’s 41-27.

The Brantford Titans now begin a five game road trip tomorrow in Pelham before once again returning home on November 27th.
